delivering on our community impact priorities in delaware

empowering communities with the basics to thrive

in august of 2019, dupont announced a corporate partnership with habitat for humanity international. the partnership enables dupont to support habitat for humanity home building projects with donations of energy-efficient building products while also providing employees with meaningful volunteer opportunities.

here in wilmington, dupont employees helped to start the new castle county affiliate, which is celebrating its 35-year anniversary in 2021.

enabling the next generation of our workforce through stem education

dupont is taking a crucial role in shaping the future of stem careers at a local level by getting students excited about science.

stem, which stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics, is not only vital for our collective future, but there are millions more stem jobs than there are workers with the skills needed to fill them.

“stem plays a vital role in tackling the pressing needs of today, and tomorrow’s innovators will be the ones to drive critical solutions,” said alexa dembek, chief technology and sustainability officer.

dupont worked with two nonprofit partners to organize catalyzing change: from curriculum to career conference: desca (delaware alliance for sustainable chemistry) and fame (forum to advance minorities in engineering).

“this event was a great opportunity to collaborate with nonprofit partners in helping to build a local stem talent pipeline, particularly among under-represented populations, and contribute to a thriving community in our headquarter area,” said jan waldauer, organizer of the event and global.

we’re helping solve some of the toughest global and local challenges with innovation, technology, and expertise. by focusing on what’s really important, like the safety of our frontline workers, we can create scalable impact.

in a first-of-its-kind collaboration, a team in the us used 3d printing technology to produce face shields for health care workers.

technology teams at the dupont experimental station in wilmington, delaware and troy, michigan used 3d printing to print face shields for healthcare workers.

using dupont™ zytel® filament, the first batch of 80 face shields have been approved by a local wilmington hospital and delivered in partnership with the nemours foundation, with more on the way.

up to 70% of waste from the experimental station is recycled in a given year, compared to an industry average of just 35%.

dupont donated unworn t-shirts to donate delaware. these shirts got a second life and were turned into masks at the height of the covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
